We keep the record of what happens to men
Men for Change is a South African non-profit. When the harm men face is written down, checked and counted, it can no longer be waved away.
Men are more likely to be victims of violent crime, less likely to seek help, and too often unheard when they are wrongly accused.
Many of these experiences are never recorded anywhere. Without data, there is no pressure to change laws, fund services or shift attitudes. Men for Change exists to fix that.
We are starting in South Africa, where men make up the large majority of murder victims and where too many men carry violence, false accusations and loss in silence. We give them a safe place to report what happened, turn those reports into open data and a live hotspot map, and put that evidence in front of the people who can make a difference, province by province.
- Visibility
- Problems that aren't counted aren't solved. We make men's experiences visible with data nobody can ignore.
- Fairness
- We stand for equal treatment under the law and in society, and for due process for everyone.
- Compassion
- Behind every report is a person. We lead with empathy and never judge.
- Partnership
- Change happens together, with families, communities, services, researchers and governments.
How we protect you
Speaking up should never put anyone at risk, not the men who report and not the people mentioned in their stories.
- Anonymous by default
- You never need an account to report. If you have one, your name is hidden unless you choose to show it.
- No exact locations
- Coordinates are rounded to about 1 km on our servers before they are saved. Your exact position is never stored.
- Human moderation
- Every report is reviewed before publication. We remove anything that could identify another person.
- Secure by design
- Passwords are hashed, sessions use short-lived tokens, and contact details are visible only to our support team.
- Aggregate data only
- Maps and statistics only ever show grouped, anonymised data.
- You stay in control
- Members can delete their reports, or their whole account, at any time. We follow POPIA.
